Adults with depression symptoms by age and LGBT status U.S. 2022

According to a 2022 survey conducted in the United States, the share of adults who experienced depression symptoms was greater among those who identified as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender) across all age groups. As of August 8, 2022, approximately half of LGBT adults aged 18 to 29 experienced depression symptoms, compared to nearly 29 percent of non-LGBT respondents. The source categorized respondents as LGBT if their reported sex at birth differed from their current gender identity, if they identified their sexual orientation as gay, lesbian, or bisexual, or if they identified as transgender.

Non-LGBT respondents were those whose sex at birth matched their current gender identity, and who selected "Straight" when asked about their sexual orientation.
