The number of homes for which construction started in 2022 was slightly lower than in the previous year. Overall, there was one new housing start for every 1,000 citizens. Even though that figure is slightly higher than it was in 2015 or 2017, Italy was at the bottom of the ranking of per capita housing starts in Europe in 2022. That indicates that there was a low supply of new housing, which could affect housing affordability.
