Bill C-18: changes to news access in Canada 2023, by age group
As a result of news content being blocked on Meta platforms following Canada's Bill C-18, also known as the Online News Act, 22 percent of adults aged 18 to 34 years old reported turning to other social media such as Reddit or X. This demographic however were more likely to say that they made no changes since they did not engage with news anyway. Older consumers above 55 years were the least affected, with more than 40 percent saying they had not changed how they accessed news as they did not go to social media for updates.
