Main causes of mortality in U.S. patients with chronic kidney disease in 1999 & 2020
A study of chronic kidney disease (CKD)-associated deaths in the United States revealed that, in 1999, cardiovascular (CV) diseases were the most common underlying causes of mortality among patients with CKD accounting for 39 percent of such deaths. However, in 2020, genitourinary mortality was the most common cause of death, with 29 percent, followed by CV causes, with a share of 24 percent. This statistic depicts the distribution of the main causes of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 1999 and 2020.
