Mortgage delinquency rates for VA loans in the U.S. 2000-2023, per quarter
The mortgage delinquency rate for Veterans Administration (VA) loans in the United States has decreased since 2020. Under the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the mortgage delinquency rate for VA loans spiked from 2.81 percent in the first quarter of 2020 to 8.05 percent in the second quarter of the year. In the third quarter of 2023, the delinquency rate amounted to 3.76 percent. Compared with other loan types, the rate of 30 days delinquent VA mortgage loans was higher than conventional loans, but lower than Federal Housing Administration loans.
