Number of students at leading Italian universities 2017-2018

In the academic year 2017/2018, 100.9 thousand students were enrolled at La Sapienza University of Rome, making it the largest Italian university. Furthermore, University of Bologna, in North Italy, counted 81 thousand students, while University of Naples Federico II, in the South, ranked third with 76.5 thousand enrolled students. In total, 1.7 million students were enrolled at an Italian universities in the academic year 2017/2018.
In addition, economics was the field of study registering the largest number of enrolled students.
