Annual nitrous oxide emissions in Canada 1990-2022
Nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions in Canada were equivalent to 44.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO₂e) in 2022, an increase of four percent from the previous year. Canada's annual N₂O emissions have risen by more than 15 percent since the turn of the century. N₂O is a potent greenhouse gas with a far greater warming potential than CO₂ and has a lifetime of more than 100 years. It is primarily emitted from agricultural processes.
